Recreation
Fishing, Mountain Biking, and More....
For pristine, natural goodness, the area that encompasses
Richwood, West Virginia cannot be surpassed. The town sits in a bowl at an elevation of
2,193 feet above sea level, surrounded by the woodlands of the Monongahela National Forest
and mountains that rise to an elevation of 4,300 feet.
The Cranberry Backcountry offers some of the best hunting
in the state. Fishing is also spectacular, especially trout fishing and designated areas
for fly fishing. Four rivers, tributaries of the mighty Kanawha and Ohio, originate here
-- the Cranberry, Williams, Gauley and Cherry Rivers. Richwood is home to the best trout
waters in the state.
Hundreds of miles of forest road provide mountain bikers
days of endless activity. Richwood is the southern terminus of the Highland Scenic
Highway, another biking adventure, which traverses the mountainous terrain of the high
Allegheny Highlands and Plateau.
