cherry river buttonCherry River
Trout fishing is popular in the Cherry River. The river is stocked with rainbow, brook, brown and golden trout and smallmouth bass. Access points are many. The River runs through the middle of Richwood.


gauley fishing buttonGauley River
The tailwaters of nearby Summersville Lake, the Gauley River, provide areas for trout fishing also. These waters are stocked once every two weeks March through May and also in the fall. Spring and early summer is best for smallmouth bass. Anglers fish for walleye during winter and early spring.


summersville lake buttonSummersville Lake is best known for its ample supply of warm water species. It is the favorite fishing waters for the best smallmouth bass, walleye and crappie.

The waters of the 2,700-acre Summersville Lake are divided into several broad, cliff-rimmed arms that extend far back into dense forestland. Secluded coves abound. The clear waters force anglers to use light lines, and the rocky shoreline assures loss of many a lure.

Camping and boating facilities are located near the Lake.

In the nearby Monongahela National Forest, Summit Lake is a 43-acre lake that offers fishing and boating. The lake is stocked with trout once each week March through May and also in the Fall. Non-motorized boats welcomed. A plus for Summit Lake is the boardwalk around part of the the lake whick allows for handicapped access. A campground is open March - December.

Big Ditch Lake
Big Ditch Lake is a one hour drive from Richwood on Rt. 41, one-half mile from Cowen. The lake offers handicapped access and is stocked with tiger musky and channel catfish.
