The tailwaters of nearby Summersville Lake, the Gauley River, provide areas for
trout fishing also. These waters are stocked once every two weeks March through May and
also in the fall. Spring and early summer is best for smallmouth bass. Anglers fish for
walleye during winter and early spring.
Summersville Lake is best known for its ample
supply of warm water species. It is the favorite fishing waters for the best smallmouth
bass, walleye and crappie.
The waters of the 2,700-acre Summersville Lake are divided
into several broad, cliff-rimmed arms that extend far back into dense forestland. Secluded
coves abound. The clear waters force anglers to use light lines, and the rocky shoreline
assures loss of many a lure.
Camping and boating facilities are located near the Lake.
